Serve Pro-History

The story of Serve Pro goes back to January 16, 1996, when Loraine Sharkey first opened her doors for business. The idea of opening a hospitality agency specifically aimed at Waiter and Bartender training and placement was born out of an obvious gap in the hospitality recruitment market.  A need was recognized for a hospitality agency that provided training and work opportunities for young unskilled people seeking part time employment in this sector while attending tertiary institutions.

After gaining extensive experience and insight into this sector during working holidays in Europe, Loraine researched and evaluated the opportunities for such an agency on her return to Durban. A definite need became apparent when Loraine approached roll players within the industry.  A large number of restaurants, hotels and bar owners welcomed the idea to place orders for fully trained personnel for placement directly in their respective businesses. However, they emphasized the importance of receiving specifically trained staff who would meet the individual demands and different “levels of service” required – such as 5 star hotels, a la carte menus, restaurants or cafe style establishments.

Serve Pro Specialized Recruitment and Training was an instant success.  During its first eleven years the new business serviced  over 160 establishments in the greater Durban and surrounding areas with fully trained Waiters, Bartenders and Management Staff. As the business grew, Serve Pro received repeated inquires and requests from corporate and private individuals who were seeking trained hospitality personal on an hourly bases that could be employed by Event Organizers, Caterers, Function coordinator’s and corporate clients.

The Management Team

Serve Pro is driven by a young dynamic team and its management executives have between them over twenty five years of varied experience within the hospitality arena.

Loraine Sharkey: The vision and creation of this successful mobile venture was born from Loraine’s 14 years of hospitality experience covering all levels of the industry, bounded by one common thread – “a true passion for service”. Loraine’s passion extends from the initial training of staff through to all staff gaining exceptional service standards that Serve Pro set. Loraine strives to provide “service excellence” to each and every guest. With her attention to detail, Loraine has an absolute passion for skills development and her 16 years, overall knowledge in the hospitality arena have made her a leader in the hospitality sector. She has an unprecedented ability to select the best suited staff for the Serve Pro team to meet each client’s expectations.

Daniel Hattingh: With his big smile, Daniel can always be counted on to go the extra mile and to meet any guest’s requirements. He plays an active role in the operations and function management for Serve Pro. It is well known in the office that Daniel and Loraine are good at playing “good cop bad cop” thereby ensuring that the staff is kept in check.

February 2019 provides the long awaited opening of Serve Pro’s new subsidiary company, namely The Harvest Table Catering Company.
